Welcome to Northumberland Links Golf Club

The 6313 (white tees), par 72 course, minutes from Pugwash, overlooking the Northumberland Strait, is one of Atlantic Canada’s most picturesque and challenging layouts. Don’t let its length fool you…prevailing winds, rolling fairways, well placed bunkers and lightning fast greens make it a true test and enjoyable experience.

The sea scenery combines with the beautiful landscaping of the grounds to create an atmosphere perfect for a round of golf. The greens are made from thin cross creeping bluegrass, and are designed to challenge even the most serious players, while the fairways are made from an annual bluegrass, common to most courses in the province.

In addition to providing an unparalleled experience for golfers, the Northumberland Links also plays an important role in the communities along the north shore.

Course History

Golf was first played on the original site at Northumberland in 1964 after four local golf enthusiasts raised the funds to establish a nine hole country club. In 1985, the Provincial Government of Nova Scotia purchased the 540 acre property and renovated the course to the 18 hole championship layout, only the most discerning golfer would be able to distinguish the old holes from the new which are interwoven along the Gulf Shore Road. In 1992, two short years after the expansion, Northumberland played host to the Nova Scotia Amateur Golf Championships.

Due to the village of Pugwash’s connection with Scottish descendants, the holes on the original nine were all given Gaelic names. Consequently, these names were retained for the original holes that have been incorporated into the new layout. Take notice of the name given to hole number five “Grim Reaper”, named for the historic cemetery that sits adjacent to it.

In 2001 ownership of the course was passed from the Provincial Government back to the members.
